The? deep-ocean? is? the? largest? continuous? habitat? for? life? on? Earth? and? harbors unique ecosystems, such as hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. Yet,? the deep sea is? also? the? least? explored? and? understood? environment? within? the? ocean? system, largely? due? to? the? fact? that? the? remoteness? and? inhospitable? conditions? still? pose technological challenges for ocean exploration. Technologies range from? instruments for? sampling? and? in? situ measurements? of? biological? and? chemical? parameters? to advanced robotic systems that facilitate the exploration and mapping of deep-ocean environments.? Here,? I? will? provide? examples? of? how? a? tight? integration? between science and? technology can? lead? to advances? in our understanding of deep ocean ecosystems,? with? an? emphasis? on? chemosynthetic? habitats.
